Top 15 Classic Wedding Songs

We see and hear it all when it comes to wedding music. We’ve DJ’ed thousands of weddings over the history of All About You Entertainment. Every wedding we’ve done has been unique but there are songs that we keep seeing pop up as requests when we meet with our brides and grooms. So, without further ado and in no particular order, here are 15 of the top classic wedding songs guaranteed to add the perfect vibe to your wedding ceremony, cocktail hour, or reception.

The List

1) “You Are the Best Thing” – Ray Lamontagne

There are few classic wedding songs more versatile than this one. We’ve heard it used perfectly in every context of the wedding day. It’s especially great for wedding recessionals but also shines during any part of the reception.

2) “My Girl” – The Temptations

This classic wedding song ends up at about 90% of weddings we perform at.  It’s an obvious choice for the first dance between the father and bride but it works great at any other part of the reception. Pretty much anything by The Temptations will fit perfectly into any dance set of your reception.

3) “September” – Earth Wind & Fire

A great song for both active dance sets and during any wedding dinner set. Most of these songs on the list are usual suspects for our sets but this one is truly a mainstay.

4) “At Last” – Etta James

This one of the most popular classic wedding songs chosen for first dances. That voice, those timeless lyrics, the pace, everything you need to underscore an incredibly memorable part of your wedding day.

5) Let’s Stay Together – Al Green

Few voices are more synonymous with love and romance than Al Green’s. “Let’s Stay Together” makes a great addition to any dance set. This is also a nice, low-key choice for any wedding dinner set.

6) Uptown Funk ft. Bruno Mars – Mark Ronson

Although recent, this song is guaranteed to sit with the classic, older songs in the sets. Perhaps this is because of the throwback brass arrangements that give that late 70’s, early 80’s Michael Jackson vibe. These ingredients with the modern touch make this track a guaranteed hit to push your guests to the next level of partying on the dance floor.

7) A Thousand Years – Christina Perri

You don’t have to have seen Twilight to be able to connect with this track.  The beautiful lyrics and melodies of this very popular slow dance will make this another perfect addition to your set.  This is another great choice for first dances.

8) Make You Feel My Love – Adele

Adele. I mean come on. Who doesn’t love Adele? Couple that voice with a great cover of Bob Dylan, and you have another strong contender for your first dance sang.  It’s also a definite shoo-in for any other dance set of your wedding reception.

9) ACDC – You Shook Me All Night Long

No dance set is complete without some danceable and singable rock n roll. This longtime staple will guarantee that your guests may be going home without voices from trying to outsing Brian Johnson’s raspy rock pipes.

10) Taylor Swift – Shake it off

A modern pop masterpiece guaranteed to connect with your guests at any point of your dance sets. Actually, you can grab most songs from Taylor Swift’s records. They’re all great additions for bringing the right energy at any point in your reception.

11) Twist and Shout – The Beatles

This classic is probably the most dynamic song to add to your dance sets because EVERYONE resonates with it. We see kids, teenagers, the bridal party, and much much older people coming out of the shadows when we drop this song. The Beatles also have a ton of other great songs for any and every type of set we do at weddings so be sure to ask us for some suggestions if you’d like to have more of the greatest band ever recorded.

12) Justin Timberlake – Can’t Stop the Feeling

Justin Timberlake, the Trolls connection, a great, classic feel. These three traits along give this song so much power when it comes to pulling people onto the dance floor at any point of your reception. This is most likely going to be the moment your photographer is getting those adorable photos on your flower girl dancing around the wedding party on the dance floor.

13) Whitney Houston – I Wanna Dance With Somebody

This is another voice that can’t be ignored. This is a great song for a later set in the evening.

14) Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough – Michael Jackson

You honestly can’t have a great wedding reception with either the Jackson 5 or Michael Jackson solo tracks. This is another track like “September” that will drive the energy of your sets and connect with a wide range of guests at your wedding.

15) Queen – Crazy Little Thing Called Love

Queen has always been popular but they’re absolutely massive now thanks to “Bohemian Rhapsody”. This 50’s style original track is another guaranteed hit when it comes to having a rock song that makes literally every adult dance and sing.
